Made by Me: Easter Dress!

Dress: Made by me
Cuff: F21
Heels: Target
This is the dress I made for Easter! The top and bottom are actually two separate pieces because I loved the bottom so much and wanted to wear it with other things and I like to make my garments versatile.
My school's fashion show is coming up in May so I've been sewing like crazy to get all my pieces done. They are all finished so now I'm working on all the extra details like hair and makeup, jewelry, shoes, clutches, and all the fun stuff!  I've been working towards this show since I started the program in August and I am beyond excited for May 13th! If anyone is in the Orlando area, you are more than welcome to come! It's going to be an incredible show full of amazingly talented designers who are working hard towards their dream, and you can see it in each and every garment that will be placed on the runway. Here's a link to the fb event. I've been doing photoshoots this past week with my models in the pieces they will be wearing and I can't wait to share all the garments and pictures, but I don't want to spoil the show so I'll share some previews over the next couple weeks and post all the pictures after the show!

Thanks to everyone for voting for the AE Live Your Life Contest! Sadly, I did not win, but I'm so glad I got chosen to be a finalist, there were so many awesome and beautiful people who participated, the winners definitely deserved it! Thanks for your support :)

zig & zag.

I believe this is the last of the winter posts, at least that's what I'm hoping! I love the cold weather and bringing out my winter clothes in the fall, but I'm ready to pack those away and unload my summer clothes again. The cold is fun for a little bit but after a few weeks..this Florida girl is missing her cut offs and tank tops!
Dress: Forever 21
Velvet Blazer: Gap
Boots: Urban Outfitters
Skirt underneath dress: I believe Nordstrom Rack
Tights: Target
Necklace: Mom's!
I won't miss the cold weather, although I do love tights. If you don't believe me maybe this will help...
Yes those are all tights. I may have a slight obsession.
I've decided that I'm going to incorporate tights into my spring/summer wardrobe. Who said you could only wear tights in the fall/winter? Maybe nobody..but I'm going to wear tights year round..how could I let all these beauties go to waste for over half the year? I mean yeah, I live in FL..incase you didn't know, it gets a little toasty here. But oh well. Tights years round woohoo!
And if you're up for wearing tights year round, this is a great wait to keep them so they don't take up so much room in your drawers. Trust me, I know. My sock drawer was completely overflowing so I decided why not display the tights. Now I can see them all the time so I don't forget what I have! All you need is some pins and string. Tie a knot on both ends of the string and pin them to the wall. Hang your tights and there you have it.

Made by ME: Dress!

I made this dress back in November but it took me forever to take pictures of it and edit them and everything, but here it is! I think it's my favorite thing I've made so far. Wait till you see the back :)
Denim bustier top.
And JP brought me back this necklace from a trip to North Carolina, I wear it like every other day haha. It's actually backwards in these pictures, I mean it can go both ways, but the other side is a clock and it opens! Such a sweetheart :)
EXPOSED ZIPPER on the back! Maybe it's not as cool as I think it is but I'm loving exposed zippers lately.
Here's my sketch and a closer look at the fabric below.

the daily garb: famous flower of manhattan.

This is an outfit from a couple months ago I never posted. This FL girl is missin' her warmer weather, so I figured I'd share summer summer inspiration today! In my head, I love the cold. But I've realized that I really just like fall, and everything about it. It's not the weather. I love scarves and tights. I love sipping a pumpkin spice latte. I love boots, and lots of yummy food on thanksgiving. But I really do not like the cold. Haha..my realization of the season. So anyways, today's song is Famous Flower of Manhattan by the Avett Brothers. Loveeee them.

the daily garb: snails.

I really want to start sharing more art on kai-leidoscope, since I love it so much. I'm a creative person, and using these creative gifts God has blessed me with, that I enjoy so much, is what gets me through the day in a joyful manner :) So i think when I upload my daily garb, I'm going to start titling it by a song name, or a piece of art or a quote or something like that: 1. Because I think it'd be fun and a way to share some things I enjoy with you and 2. Because I have the hardest time coming up with post titles..I'm really slackin' hahaa.
So yeah...that's just what's going through my head right now.
This sweater was another one of those buys where I was picking through the sale section at Gap and accidentally fell in love with an XL sweater..I have far too many of these in my closet. Well I just really liked it and so figured why not try it on. Turns out it's perfect, just another oversized sweater to add to my collection. Woohoo. How could I not buy it, I mean look at those gold buttons...all this to say, don't overlook sizes that you don't normally wear. Simply give it a try, it may be your new favorite item :)
My hair was in some kind of crazy double waterfall braid thing, I'm not really sure.. :)
Sweater: Gap
Scarf: Target
Black Skinnys: Pac Sun
Boots: Old Navy

So today's quote on my picture comes from the lyrics of Snails, by the Format. You may recognize the singers voice. That's because he is now the singer in Fun, the band that sings We are Young and Some Nights. So this song is some of his older stuff, I love the lyrics.

the daily garb: hopeless wanderer.

In my opinion, Mumford and Sons is incognitoly (is that a word?) a christian band..even if you were to simply read the titles of some of their songs, it sounds like it. Whether they are referring to Him or not, I am a hopeless wanderer without Jesus. He is my shepard and without Him, I am a lost sheep, wandering about the world without a loving and holy father to lead the way.  Listen to the song Hopeless Wanderer at the bottom of this post, they are so amazing! And really listen to the lyrics..let me know what ya think :)
please excuse my poor, neglected nails :)
Shorts, tights, boots, rock ring: Urban Outfitters
Sweater: Limited
Top: American Eagle
Necklaces: Forever21
Cross Ring: Shoplately

the daily garb: oh, we're matching.

"We're" is referring to my sweater and my hair. I don't even remember how many times I got told today that my hair matched my sweater, or asked if I coordinated my outfit to match my hair...um..NO. It's sad because this teal color is my favorite, and I love to wear it but then everyone thinks I match my hair to my outfits..so I don't like to wear teal anymore ..
I got this old film camera from an estate sale last weekend, it's actually really legit. I can't wait to get some film and test it out!
And the pictures below..if you're wondering why I'm holding a tree branch..well, my parents went up north this past week and brought us home this branch so we could see  the colored leaves! As you can kind of see in all these pictures, everything is GREEN. Our leaves don't turn into pretty pinks or oranges in the fall, they stay boring old green. So I thought I'd bring some Autumn to my pictures with these pretty leaves :)

the daily grab: it's cold!

Florida finally decided to give into fall and bring us some cold weather this week! Well..really Sandy (the hurricane if you didn't know) forced it upon FL to let the cold, windy weather in, but I am so glad. I love the cold. I keep telling myself that at least, but I think what it is, is that I really just love the attire worn.. hahaa. I love layering. I love tights and scarves and warm hats to keep my ears warm. I loveeee boots and socks. And I like my winter coat.  Oh and I love drinking hot chocolate with little marshmallows . and creamy tomato soap to cool me down after my body becomes an icicle. Oh how I love fall :)
Anyways, because of this wonderful (I think) weather, I got to bring out my Winter style today. In this look, I paired a sweater from H&M over a thrifted dress and belted it. I then added maroon tights (although they look kind of orange in this pictures), socks and some black ankle boots :)

the daily garb: blue da dabu di dabu di.

Is that how that song goes? I'm pretty sure nobody knows, we all just make random sounds with our mouths and pretend we know what we're talking about hahaa. Anywho, I'm feelin' some blueee.
I got these blue jeans at a thrift shop for less than $5, and I love them! First of all, they are Levi's, so they are automatically cool. Next they are bright blue. What's not to love? They are really fun and add a nice change from the norm pair of blue jeans.  And they are the perfect length to showcase my heels :)

necklace: forever 21
Sorry I haven't been posting much, I've been so busy and tired with school!  I'm making a dress right now, and I'm thinkin' I'll be done by the end of this week! Well...hopefully.  I'm really excited to share it with you guys, I seriously love it! :) And I'm really excited, this week is fashion week in my town, and I'm helping out with some of the shops involved in the show, and with the actual fashion show on Saturday night, so I'm really excited! If I'm allowed to take pictures, I will definitely be snapping some shots, but if not I'm sure I'll write all about it! Have a great week! :)

the daily garb: minty fresh.

One of my biggest pet peeves is bra straps showing, and mine are completely showing hahaa, I apologize.  Just had to point that out.  And look, my bun looks like a donut. I almost called this look "minty fresh donut," but minty and donut just really don't go together..
Hah this picture above kind of makes me laugh.  I am so blatantly not trying to hid the fact that I'm using the remote to take a picture of myself, and I have such a cheesy smile on my face..probably because I always feel awkward out in my yard taking pictures of myself..don't we all? And then it gets even more awkward when your neighbors go by walking their dogs and stop and stare at you for a minute while you try to avoid eye contact at all cost, waiting for them to pass but they walk so darn slow and continuously look back at you like the remote your holding is for a bomb about to explode in your camera?  Okay maybe that's a bit extreme, but you get it. I mean come on people, how else am I supposed to get incredibly good pictures of my adorable outfits?  Joking.  I'm not that conceited.  If I were, I'd awkwardly go outside and take pictures of myself everyday...oh wait. Hmm..
And here's a picture so you can watch me laugh as I make fun of myself..because that conversation I just had was probably not nearly as hilarious to you as it was in my head.. HA.HA. (fake laugh). Okay I'm done..and debating whether or not to delete these last two paragraphs..but I won't, hopefully it will make someone laugh, whether it's at me or with me.
This ring is from target. It actually came with two others, one is yellow on the inside, and the other is fuchsia, and they all fit perfectly together.  I love chevron!

Oh and I just recently got this new fisheye lens, it's sweet, I'm really enjoying it!  I love the effect, except when you take a picture straight on...then your nose looks gigantic, it's quite funny actually.  Well now that I think about it, it makes you look like a fish..I suppose that's why it's called a fisheye...
Well, I hope you enjoyed this awkwardly funny (or not) post.  Come back soon :)
