oh i love DIY: leather laptop cover.

here's my latest DIY! i was getting tired of my old laptop case, so i decided to make a new knew one..i love leather, so i bought a large piece at hobby lobby and sowed it together :)

i really love how it turned out, i originally wanted to tie it together with a piece of lace, but i ended up liking the suede tie better! and i've heard that you can paint on leather with nail polish, so i may add a little design to it if i get bored (which happens too often)..

DIY: wedding gift.

i'm back, and with much to share! i have tons of great pictures from upstate NY, but first i wanted to share a DIY i've recently done.  jp and i made these as wedding presents, and i just love them, i think they are a great gift to bedazzle up a house haha.

all the knobs are from anthropologie. we bought the wood from hobby lobby, beat it with some nails and painted it with wood stainer. we drilled some holes, screwed in the knobs, painted their last name on it and voila. now that was a extremely quick run through version on how we did it..i suppose if anyone really wanted to make this, i can do a full DIY with specific instructions..let me know :)

i think these are going to be our wedding present thing if that makes sense..or mine at least and jp will just be my handy man :) i'm so happy with how they turned out, i can't wait to have a house some day so i can make one for myself too! so if you want one all you have to do is invite me to your wedding ;) bahaa.

SHORTS. i made some new shorts! i'm just now realizing i should've taken a picture from the front, but i'm sure you will be seeing a lot of these because i loveee them! the front has four buttons and they are kind of highwaisted so i love zem! they were jeans from american eagle, i ordered them online for $12 with the intention of cutting them because i've been wanting some shorts with lots of buttons! i really like how they turned out! and then i sowed the lace on the back pockets, i found this lace at joann's and fell in love with it so i bought a yard and i'm so glad i did, it's really cool!

and my frand clairedycat took these pics for me, i wasn't exactly sure how to get a good picture of my shorts without getting an awkward picture of my butt only hahaa, she did quite a wonderful job! 

and here she is, she had this super cute outfit on today, well she has really cute outfits on everyday, so i finally got a picture of her and get to introduce her today! you'll probably be seeing a lot of her this summer, she goes to school fahfah away so i never get to see her during the year but now she's here :) and so i'm sure i'll be sharing some outfit posts of her in the near future!

hahaa i look like a scarecrow in the middle there. the sweater was just so big and soft, i felt the urge to..stand like a scarecrow..or pretend i'm flying away, either one works really.  i got this comfortable sweater from gap yesterday for a mere $4.  you know, it's always a good idea to check the sizes too big for you, because you might find a little gem like i did. it's an extra large, but it looks like it's supposed to fit baggy like that right? maybe only i think it looks cute and i really look ridiculous, but i have a weakness for loose, soft, comfy things, so i like it! :)

 i got my "executer" shoes as my friend likes to call them from a local resale shop, dechoes, which i've talked about lots, for $9.  i think they're pretty cool..

and look at my headphones! they aren't completely finished, but it was just taking so long and i really wanted to share them so voila! it's really simple, if you know how to make friendship bracelets, then you could totally make these! it just takes a LOT of string and patience.  if you're going to make them then use more string than you think you'll need, i did and still ran out! 

oh i love DIY: terrariums

on memorial day, my family spent the day making terrariums! they turned out really awesome, so i thought i'd do a kind of  DIY..kind of meaning there are so many different ways you can make them and different things you can use, so no one will really look the same!                                             

                                                     what you'll need:

vase/bottle

sand

dirt/soil

moss

rocks/shells

plants

whatever else you want to throw in there!

 the moss is basically there to create the layers. so it is good to put down before the sand or soil so they don't seep through, causing a jumbled mess!

 be sure to to pat the sand down really hard so it's in there good! if you pack it down enough, it will cover the moss for the most part.

 and that's it! it's pretty simple once you get the hang of it! it just takes a creative mind and lots of patience!

we make other ones too, but for some reason all of the pictures turned out...rather poorly, unfortunately. but i hope you guys liked this kinda DIY, let me know if you make one or something, i'd love to see yours!! :)

oh i love DIY: doily shorts.

hi there, sorry i haven't posted in a few days, i'm in chattanooga, TN for a friends graduation! this place is GORGEOUS i am going to have some beautiful pictures to share. chattanooga is such a sweet little place, with inspiration and artsyness {is that a word? it is now..} flowing everywhere, i love it here! 

until then, i have an awesome DIY for ya. i'm sure you've seen the whole lace shorts DIYs floating around the internet. well i thought they were just adorable, and had to make myself a pair. i had some lace that was alright, but for these i actually ended up using a doily.  a few years back my grandmommy gave me a huge bag full of doilies that her mom&grandma had made, knowing that i could find something cool to do with them, and boy have i used them quite a bit.  it's really neat because i am creating things with art made by my great grandmothers, so i have a piece of them floating around with me in the things that i create :) plus i know it makes grandmommy happy to see them!

so anyways, here are my DIY doily shorts.  i kinda took pictures while i was making them so you could see how to do it but i'm not sure if they are very helpful haha so please ask questions if you are making some and confused!!

you will need:
lace/crochet/doily
needle and thread the same color as your doily
scissors
pins
jeans/shorts

1. if you are using jeans, cut them to shorts. i measured them to another pair of shorts that had a length that i liked.
2. cut your doily to the size you would like it to be, if you are using lace, it may already be as desired.
3. put your doily on the shorts where you'd like them to go. pin them on to make sure they are secure. you will want the middle of your doily to be directly on the seam, so it's in the middle.

4. sow only around the outer edges. on the picture below, i drew turquoise lines where you should be sowing. be careful not to sow anywhere on the inside.

5. cut out all of the jean underneath the doily, inside your stitching. 

             *now if you want, do the same exact thing to the other side. or you can just      leave it on one side, both look cute! :)

and that's what it looks like finished! for some reason i didn't take a picture of the shorts so you could see the whole thing completed...not really sure why, but i will soon, i'll probably have them on in an outfit post shortly so you can see them then!

oh i love DIY: beaded chain bracelet

okay so here it is, the wonderful beaded chain bracelet DIY! make it now, you're gonna love it. it's great for stackin on the arm candy, i wear mine almost everyday i loves it.

feelin thrifty? yes.

i went to dechos, a local vintage/resale store last week and 3 great dresses i wanted to share!! this first one is really neat, not sure if you can tell from the pictures but theres two layers, the top one is almost like a cape or something over the under layer haha. okay not a cape buuut...drape? i don't know but the layers are connected on the sides and go into just one layer in the back. am i making any sense? i'm kind of just typing away right now because i'm on spring break! soo...my brain is kind of turned off haa so sorry if this post is cah-razy all over tha placee :)

okay so any who i got this awesome dress, i really loved the floral pattern and the top and bottom layer are two different shades, and it laces up on the front and back which i thought was so cool! for some reason i'm picturing like someone on the mayflower rocking this little number...but i mean that's just me..

but when i bought this dress i had the intention of cutting it shorter due to my lack of long legs. it hit at a really awkward length, so i though it'd be adorable shorter! sooo...scroll down to see how it turned out! :)

annnd here we are..

so i hacked about a foot and a half off the bottom, trimmed the sleeves a little shorter, cut the neck a wee bit because it was awkwardly high, took the lace out of the front and belted it. what do ya think?

lovin' for the home: hanging space.

Do you have a stack of old and adored catalogues gathering dust on the floor in your bedroom with no home?  And you don't want to throw them away because they are so lovely and inspiring, but theres really just no place for them..

I have a special project for you, I did this with my favorite Free People, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters and Fossil catalogues, and I loveee how it turned out!

And it's a very cute and simple way to dress up your room!  

All you do is hang some string to the wall with some push pins.  I used hemp string because it's very strong and I like the look of it, it creates a bit of a rustic look!  Plus I didn't want my masterpiece to tumble, but you can use whatever your heart desires.  I found that the best way to hang the string is to tie a knot in the string, leaving a small hole to hang onto the pins.  Then hang your catalogues in any which way you please.  I used those black pins things (I'm sorry i forget what they are called), but I think clothes pins would look really cute as well!  And that's it, it's quite easy.

And now you get creative!  You can make it your own by hanging some other little trinkets from the string.  Ribbon could be cute, maybe some feathers or beads, and even your own pictures.  I love the idea of hanging Polaroid photos on the wall like this, and I do have a Polaroid camera, but I have no film unfortunately...it's quite expensive.  If anyone knows where I can find some fairly cheap then please let me know! :)

Anyways, what I did was find my favorite picture in the catalogue and just fold the catalogue over so that was the picture showing!  You could also just rip pages out of the catalogues and hang only the picture, I just don't want to rip my catalogues up haha I like them to stay together :)

And you don't have to hang it over the closet like i did, you could hang it right on the wall if you please.  I liked it over the closets because it created some what of a curtain for the closet since there are no doors and I liked the look of it.  And by the way I apologize, please excuse my messy closets :)
